New Delhi:
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra claimed on Wednesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is increasing household spending while avoiding a debate about it in parliament, asking whether it is “unparliamentary” to talk about inflation.
Congress said it is “cruel” on the part of the government to raise taxes on some essential consumer goods, as this will lead to a further rise in inflation.
In a tweet in Hindi, Ms Gandhi said that amid severe inflation, households needed “sanjeevani” (big impulse).

The BJP-led government further increased inflationary pressures by imposing “Grihasthi Satyanash Tax (GST)” (tax on the destruction of households) on flour, grains, cane sugar and curd, she said.
“Narendra Modi ji increases spending and avoids discussion in parliament. Is it ‘unparliamentary’ to talk about inflation?” said the congressional leader.
Congress’ general secretary also tweeted a photo of opposition leaders protesting in Parliament buildings against inflation and the increase in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on certain everyday goods.
Congress and other parties have sought a discussion in Parliament on the issue of inflation and GST rates. Parliament has witnessed disturbances over the issue since the start of the monsoon session on Monday.
