Telangana Party (YSRTP) said on Friday that President YS Sharmila began an indefinite fast at the party office here in protest of the alleged denial of permission to continue her statewide ‘padayatra’.
Ms Sharmila, daughter of YS Rajasekhara Reddy, former chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, submitted a memorandum to the Ambedkar statue near Hussain Sagar Lake in protest against the denial of permission for her ‘padayatra’ and tried to fast there said the party.
Since fasting is not allowed at Ambedkar’s statue, where activities such as garlanding and filing of memorandums usually take place, she was transferred to her party office in the Lotus Pond locality here, police said.
Ms. Sharmila was arrested by police here on 29 November as she and her party associates marched to ‘Pragathi Bhavan’, the office of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, in protest against the alleged attack on her and her party activists. by the ruling TRS cadre during the ‘padayatra’ at Warangal.
According to TV footage, she got into a vehicle (with damaged windows) during the march and drove into it, but was stopped by police.
After she refused to get out, police brought a crane and towed away the vehicle while she was inside, which was criticized by some BJP leaders and others.
