Kathua/Jammu:
A police officer died in a hospital on Saturday within hours of his arrest by the CBI on bribery charges in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
Chief Constable Mushtaq Ahmad, a resident of Billawar, was caught red-handed when he allegedly took a bribe of Rs 3,000 from a complainant at the women’s police station in Kathua, where he was posted, the officials said.
They said the police officer was questioned in a separate room in the precinct by the CBI sleuths when he complained of discomfort and was rushed to the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital for treatment.
However, he died in hospital, officials said, adding that the cause of death was not immediately known.
Station House Officer of the police station, Kiran Devi, confirmed the death of the police officer.
“The police officer died shortly after we transferred him to hospital. A detailed report will be shared later,” she told PTI.
