Dhanbad:
The principal of a private school in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district was accused of ordering 80 Class 10 girls to take off their shirts and write messages on them. This has prompted the administration to investigate, an official said on Saturday.
The girls were reportedly forced to return home in their blazers with no shirts underneath.
The incident took place on Friday at a prestigious school in Digwadih near Jorapokhar police station, Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Madhvi Mishra said.
The parents complained to the DC that students of class 10, after completing their exams, celebrated 'pen day' by writing messages on each other's shirts.
The principal objected to the celebration and asked the students to take off their shirts even as they asked for an apology. All students were sent home in their blazers and without shirts, the parents told the DC.
“Several guardians filed complaints against the principal. We also spoke to some victims. The administration has taken the matter seriously. A committee has been constituted to investigate the matter,” Mishra said.
The committee consists of the district magistrate, the district education officer, the district social officer and the district police officer.
Action would be taken based on the probe panel's report, the DC said.
Jharia MLA Ragini Singh also accompanied the parents to the DC's office on Saturday when they lodged the complaints against the principal.
Jharia MLA Ragini Singh described the incident as “shameful and unfortunate”.
