Vikarabad:
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao fell heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, saying the latter said nothing helpful during his Independence Day speech other than holding “dialogues” and showing a long turban around his head.
In a public meeting here, K Chandrashekar Rao, popularly known as KCR, spoke out to the prime minister for his comments about freebies and said that no state in the country is implementing welfare measures being done in Telangana.
“Yesterday I also listened to the Prime Minister’s speech. Anyway, they haven’t done anything for eight years, I thought they would do something for the remaining two years. There was nothing in the whole hour-long speech, except dialogues and a scarf around his head, dress up, there was nothing. No new plan was announced. Not even a single word about the welfare of the country,” said the Telangana Chief Minister.
In line with the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrations, Modi wore a white “safa” with tricolor stripes and a long track on Monday for his 76th Independence Day look.
Chandrashekar Rao, an attack on Prime Minister Modi, alleged that the Center is forcing states to make meters for pump sets and also import coal, even if the raw material is available in India at a lower price.
Referring to some BJP activists who tried to protest when his convoy passed, he said the people of Vikarabad should ask these saffron party workers what Prime Minister Modi was doing during the past eight years of rule.
“I ask the Prime Minister what you have been doing for the past eight years. Farmers? Women? Tribes? Muslims and Dalits? Which section benefited from it? None. Moreover, when the state governments implement any welfare measures within their borders, they are called freebies and must be discontinued,” said K Chandrashekar Rao.
He claimed that some of Karnataka’s neighboring villages wanted to merge with Telangana because he was attracted by the welfare measures implemented here and by the development work.
He said Telangana suffered a lot for 58 years when it was part of the unified Andhra Pradesh.
Although Telangana is growing, he believes it is just as important that the growth of the center matches that of the state. Otherwise, the overall development will be affected.
“Even if the state moves forward, if the Center doesn’t move forward, the required growth will not come. So a government that respects the states should come to power in the Center. Unemployment is growing, the rupee is falling. government in the center home and bring our own government,” he said.
Earlier, the Prime Minister opened a new District Collectorate complex and laid the foundations for a medical university here.
