Bhopal:
Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra hit out at former Prime Minister Kamal Nath on Monday for allegedly calling former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s ‘anniversary of death’ his ‘birthday’, saying the age factor was taking its toll had demanded (Kamal nat).
“Obviously the age factor has taken its toll on Kamal Nath as he calls Rajiv Gandhi ji’s death anniversary ‘birthday’,” Mishra said while speaking to reporters on Monday.
Congress leader Kamal Nath made the faux pas while addressing a program hosted at the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) office in the capital Bhopal on the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on Sunday (May 21).
Mr Mishra further criticized Mr Nath for the announcements made by the Congress party ahead of the Madhya Pradesh polls scheduled for later this year.
“The announcements Nath makes will be forgotten by the time the elections come,” the Home Secretary said, adding that Mr. Nath sometimes called state assembly proceedings nonsense and a female leader an “item”.
The Congress leader had made an “item” comment to BJP leader Imarti Devi in Dabra during the 2020 bypolls. He campaigned for Congress candidate Suresh Raje and Ms. Devi also ran Dabra’s BJP ticket.
Mr Mishra further attacked Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind President Maulana Arshad Madani and called him an adviser to Congress.
Madani said on Sunday that if Congress had banned the right-wing organization 70 years ago, the country would not have been ruined.
“All such maulanas are the advisers of the Congress. It has become clear whose advice the Congress follows,” Mishra said.
Meanwhile, the Home Secretary also responded to the Congress by criticizing Prime Minister James Marape of Papua New Guinea (PNG)’s act of touching Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s feet.
“I want to ask the Congress leaders and I also want to ask Kamal Nath. When will you (Congressman) understand that there is a difference between the country and the party? Today the whole country was proud when the President of America asked for a signature of our Prime Minister. When the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea bowed down and touched Prime Minister Modi’s feet. The Prime Minister does not belong to any party, he belongs to the country,” Mishra added.
“But no congressman has given a good answer to it. Criticism is good based on pros and cons, but the congressional party only criticizes by thinking politically. The mindset of the congress has been reduced to party politics alone,” he added . .
Prime Minister Modi arrived in PNG on Sunday and at the airport Prime Minister James Marape touched his feet and sought his blessings.
