Lata Mangeshkar, 92, tested positive for coronavirus last week with mild symptoms.
Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar’s health is improving, Maharashtra’s health minister Rajesh Tope said Sunday. The 92-year-old singer tested positive for coronavirus with mild symptoms and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai last week.
“Lata Mangeshkar’s condition is improving. I spoke to authorities at Breach Candy Hospital who informed me of her health. I told them that the hospital spokesperson should provide updates on the singer’s condition, as people like to know about her health.” Mr Tope told reporters in Maharashtra’s Jalna.
After consulting with her relatives, Breach Candy Hospital will be able to provide information about the veteran singer’s health, Mr Tope said.
Earlier in the day, associate professor Dr Pratit Samdani of Breach Candy Hospital told PTI that Lata Mangeshkar is still in the ICU and undergoing treatment.
Her cousin Rachana Shah had said on Thursday that the singer is doing well and asked the media to respect the privacy of the family.
Lata Mangeshkar is considered one of the greatest female singers of Indian cinema. She started her career in 1942 at the age of 13 and has over 30,000 songs to her credit in various Indian languages.
