“If the situation is so good, why doesn’t the BJP walk from Jammu to Lal Chowk?” said Rahul Gandhi.
Srinagar:
Congressman Rahul Gandhi slammed the BJP and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the security situation in centrally administered Jammu and Kashmir, where the closing ceremony of the party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra will be held tomorrow. Mr. Gandhi’s safety has made headlines ever since he entered Jammu and Kashmir. On Friday, Congress had canceled the yatra, citing a security flaw – allegations that police have denied.
Gandhi pointed out that targeted killings and bombings are a regular occurrence and said, “If the situation is so good, why don’t the BJP people walk from Jammu to Lal Chowk? Why don’t Mr. Amit Shah walk from Jammu to Lal Chowk if the situation is so safe?”
On Friday, the Congress had claimed that the security arrangements of the government of Jammu and Kashmir had “completely collapsed”, prompting Gandhi to suspend his walk.
The Jammu & Kashmir Police said it provided “unfailing security” and complained that it had not received any advance notice of the cancellation.
“There was no security breach at all. We will provide watertight security… Only authorized persons identified by the organizers and the searched crowd were allowed to enter in the direction of Yatra’s route,” the police said in a series of tweets.
