A 35-year-old journalist has been arrested in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad district for allegedly murdering a married woman he was dating and hacking her body to destroy evidence.
The victim’s wife, who was 24 years old and had a three-year-old child, was a resident of Shiur in the area.
She allegedly had an affair with Saurabh Lakhe (35), who worked as a freelance reporter, police said.
She had recently left her family and was living in a rented house in the Hudco neighborhood, where Mr Lakhe used to visit her, an official said.
Tired of her demands to marry, he allegedly strangled her on Aug. 15 and dismembered her body, the official said.
The next day he took her head and hands and kept them in a godown with Shiur.
On Wednesday, when he removed the remaining body parts, the homeowner saw him and alerted the police who arrested Mr Lakhe on his way to Shiur.
Further investigation is underway, the official said.
