New Delhi:
Mahatma Gandhi’s monument in Rajghat has been freed from flooding a week after waters from the Yamuna River flooded the complex.
Officials said today that Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, who oversaw the operation to drain the floodwaters from the monument’s lawns and paths, visited Rajghat and took stock of the situation.
“The water from the main body of the monument has been fully pumped out and it has now been dried and cleaned. Senior officers of the Delhi government, including the chief secretary, continuously supervised the work under orders from the lieutenant governor,” an official said.
Last week, water from the Yamuna flooded the ring road and the situation worsened as backflow from a runoff in the area flooded the memorial area.
Operations to drain the floodwaters began on Sunday and 10 pumps were used, officials added.
