New Delhi:
A 25-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday in Gandhi Nagar in eastern Delhi for allegedly killing his neighbor for rebuffing his sexual advances, police said.
The suspect has been identified as Maan Singh, a resident of the Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh, they said.
Police received information that on July 1, a 22-year-old woman was found lying in a pool of blood on the stairs in Raghubrapura-II.
The body has been transferred to GTB hospital.
According to police, Mr Singh worked at a nearby ready-to-wear factory. On the day of the incident, he decided to get a pair of scissors from his office and work from home. After everyone in the building had left for work, the suspect drank beer.
When the victim went to the terrace to dry clothes, the suspect blocked her way and demanded sexual favors from her. When she refused and threatened to inform her husband, he slit her throat.
“On Sunday, the autopsy was performed at GTB hospital, where it was found that the victim’s throat had been cut with a sharp weapon, after which a murder case was registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station,” Deputy Police Commissioner (Shahdara) said R Sathiyasundaram.
