Top CPI (Maoist) leader Nambala Keshavrao alias Basavaraju is probably among 27 Maoists killed in a meeting with security forces in the Narayanpur district in Chhattisgarh, according to sources. The meeting has been past the border with Narayanpur-Bijapur since about 50 hours.
The meeting started after the Jawans of District Reserve from four districts of Narayanpur, Dantewada, Bijapur and Kondagaon from an operation in the Abujhmad area, after inputs in the presence of senior frameworks of the Maad division of Maoists.
Basavaraju used to be the head of the central military committee and later became the Secretary General, the highest position in the Maoist hierarchy. He was sought by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the police in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and a premium of RS 1.5 Crore were placed on him. Civil servants say that his death is a big blow to the uprising in the region, which may disrupt Maoist leadership and regrouping efforts.
Madhu, Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee Leader, was also killed by sources.

The meeting comes one month after security forces have undertaken the 'Operation Black Forest' to combat the presence of Maoist presence near Karreguttalu Hill (KGH) along the border of Chhattisgarh-Telangana.
During the 21-day operation, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the State Police 31 MAooes with a reward of RS 1.72 Crore neutralized. 214 Maoist shelters and bunkers were destroyed, improvised explosive devices, BGL shells, detonators and explosive material were seized and nearly 12,000 kilograms of food stocks were also recovered.
Earlier this week, 24 Maoists, including 14 with a combined premium of RS 28.50 Lakh on their heads, transferred to the Bijapur district.
