A massive fire completely destroyed Kashmir’s largest orthopedic hospital on Friday night.
Numerous patients and their attendants were evacuated amid the raging fire that engulfed the Government Bone and Joint Hospital at Barzulla in Srinagar.
Heavy explosions were heard from explosions from gas cylinders and medical equipment at the specialized hospital.
The hospital has 250 beds and all wards were packed with patients and carers when the fire broke out in the three-storey building.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, officials said.
The fire was first noticed in the Emergency Theater and it quickly spread to all departments, including trauma and emergencies.
“There is no loss of life. All patients have been safely evacuated,” said Aijaz Asad, Srinagar’s deputy commissioner.
He said the fire was under control.
