Manali:
Three days after an American national went missing, his body was recovered from a ravine between Kee and Tashigang in Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday, police said.
Trevor Bokstaahlar (31) went missing on Thursday during his visit to the Spiti Valley, following which a search team was formed, they said.
According to police, the team conducted searches in several parts of Kaza and recovered a motorcycle rented by the US citizen near a deserted area near Tashigang, but no further clues were found.
A day later, a drone, with the help of the army's Dogra Regiment, identified a parachute stuck in a deep ravine between Kee and Tashigang, they said.
Police suspected that the parachute belonged to Trevor, a base jumper, said Senior Inspector of Police (SP) Lahaul and Spiti, Mayank Chaudhary. As a result, teams of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), trained in such rescue operations and adverse conditions, were deployed and Trevor's body was brought down, SP Chaudhary said.
At first glance it appears to be an accident, police said.
The information has been shared with the US embassy and we are in constant touch with them, the SP said, adding that the body would be handed over to them after completion of formalities.
