Dudhsagar:
More than 40 tourists have been rescued from Dudhsagar Falls in South Goa after a cable bridge collapsed due to torrential rain on Friday, according to an official statement.
The incident took place on Friday evening due to heavy rainfall along the Goa-Karnataka border, causing water levels at the waterfall to rise.
Several parts of the state received heavy to moderate rainfall throughout the day.
After the incident, 40 visitors were stranded and assisted by the ‘Drishti lifesavers’ who took them to safe places.
“Due to the heavy rainfall along the Goa-Karnataka border, the water level at Dudhsagar waterfall has risen significantly today. This rise in water level led to the collapse of the bridge used to cross and left more than 40 visitors behind Waterfall were quick to help those caught in the ordeal and move them to safer grounds,” an official statement from the PRO Drishti rescuers said.
Drishti Marine warned the people not to venture into the Dudhsagar falls in the coming days due to heavy rains and rising water levels.
