In the Umesh Pal murder case, police were given a nod to seize the properties of six suspects, who are on the run, including Shaista Parveen, wife of dead gangster and politician Atiq Ahmed.
The Dhumanganj police obtained permission from the Prayagraj district court for the seizure. Police will seize the properties of accused Shaista Parveen, Ashraf’s wife Zainab, Guddu Muslim along with Sabir, Armaan and Ayesha Noori.
The police have sought permission from the court to take action against the accused under Section 83 (seizure of property of a person on the run) of the CrPC, an official said.
Prayagraj police had earlier issued lookout notices against Shaista Parveen and his close aides, Guddu Muslim and Sabir.
According to officials, the Uttar Pradesh Police has already paid a bounty of Rs 50,000 to Shaista Parveen.
Despite efforts, the police are unable to trace the suspect. Authorities had earlier issued lookout notices against them.
According to police, search operations are still underway in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj and nearby places.
Umesh Pal, a key witness to the 2005 murder of then BSP MLA Raju Pal, was killed in a gunfight by one of Atiq’s sons and accomplices in Prayagraj on February 24. Pal’s two police guards were also killed that day.
Gangster Atiq Ahmed was the prime suspect in the murder of Umesh Pal.
On April 15, Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were shot dead by assailants while the duo were interacting with the media.
Atiq’s son Azad Ahmed was also killed in an encounter with the STF on April 13. Shaista has been on the run ever since.
