By order of the government of Uttar Pradesh, nearly 11,000 loudspeakers have been removed from religious sites until Wednesday evening.
According to the data released by the government, a total of 10,923 speakers have been removed from various religious sites in the state and the volume of 35,221 speakers has been lowered according to the parameters until 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
The state ministry of interior removed speakers from eight zones of the state including Agra, Meerut, Bareilly, Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and four commissioners – Lucknow, Kanpur, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Varanasi.
Out of the total, the domestic department removed a maximum of 2,395 speakers and lowered the volume of 7,397 speakers from the religious places in the Lucknow zone, followed by the Gorakhpur and Varanasi zones.
On Wednesday, the Interior Ministry asked police to remove the loudspeakers and those violating sound limit standards at religious sites across the state. The order to remove loudspeakers from religious sites in the state was issued on April 24. A compliance report from the districts in this regard was requested on April 30.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ruled on April 21 that the loudspeakers in religious places should not be played loudly and that the sound should only be kept within the premises.
He also said that the microphones should not be installed and no new loudspeakers will be allowed in religious places.
The Supreme Court ruling of June 2005 banned the use of loudspeakers and music systems in public between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. (except in public emergencies), citing the serious health consequences of noise pollution for residents living in such areas. live .
The issue of loudspeakers has been gaining popularity since Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray issued an ultimatum to remove loudspeakers in mosques on May 3.
