At Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Deuba was welcomed by applying ’tilak’.
The streets of Varanasi were littered with Deuba posters and billboards. Children were seen carrying the national flags of both countries (India and Nepal).
Earlier today, Deuba performed prayers at the Kaal Bhairav Temple with his wife and was welcomed according to the Indian ritual, with conch, damru and “bel patra” garland.
The Prime Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, was already in Varanasi before the Prime Minister of Nepal arrived.
A day earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Deuba had a delegation-level meeting and talks at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
The two prime ministers have jointly launched multiple projects that are likely to strengthen connectivity between the two countries while expressing hopes that the key initiatives taken by them will take India-Nepal relations to new heights.
Both Prime Ministers have for the first time commissioned a 35 km cross-border rail link from Jayanagar in Bihar to Kurtha in Nepal and also built a passenger train service under India’s Grant Assistance at a joint address at Hyderabad House. Deuba is on a three day visit to India.
Deuba met Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda at party headquarters on Friday and discussed strengthening ties between the Nepalese Congress and the BJP.
After meeting with the BJP president, the Nepalese Prime Minister met Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Foreign Minister Harsh Shringla in Delhi.
The Nepalese Prime Minister was also joined at the meeting by Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka, Energy and Water Resources Minister Pampha Bhusal and Health Minister Mahendra Rai Yadav.
