IndiGo said customers can enjoy a complimentary drink with a snack purchased on board (representative)
New Delhi:
IndiGo said on Tuesday it has stopped serving drinks in cans on board flights and that passengers will have the option to get a free glass of juice or cola with the purchase of a snack, while a former lawmaker complained that during a flight you cannot buy soft drinks.
BJP member and former Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta has complained that you cannot buy soft drinks on an IndiGo flight and said the airline should stop pressuring passengers with all kinds of extras.
Against this backdrop, an IndiGo spokesperson said on Tuesday that the airline has revamped its services to provide an efficient, sustainable and affordable snacking experience.
“This initiative is in line with our commitment to Go Green, as it has saved thousands of cans from being thrown away,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said that drinks will no longer be served in cans.
However, the airline has not stated when it will stop serving drinks in cans on board flights.
“I discovered in the air on an Indigo flight that you can’t buy soft drinks. The airline has made it mandatory to also buy a snack, regardless of whether you want it or not. This is coercion and I urge Minister @JM_Scindia must restore the principles of freedom of choice for pilots. Squeezing kites through all kinds of extras must stop,” he said in a message on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, on Monday evening.
