A court in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Monday sentenced a minor to 10 years in prison for raping a 15-year-old girl.
POCSO judge Subhashree Tripathi also fined the convict of Rs 5,000 for committing the crime on January 15, 2017.
The special court has also ordered the District Legal Services Authority to pay Rs 4 lakh to the rape survivor as compensation.
The teenager was raped by the accused in a secluded spot below Bamebari Police Station on the pretext of taking her to a local party. A compromise meeting was called, but eventually a police case was filed.
The court ruled that the minor would remain in the penitentiary until he reached the age of 21 and then be transferred to a regular prison, the special prosecutor said.
