The college was slammed by several users online.
In a shocking incident, a student of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology found a dead frog served to him in the hostel food. The student, Aaryansh, took to X, formerly Twitter, to share his ordeal and questioned the state of affairs at the educational institution. Criticized by several users online, the council later took note of the situation and issued a notice stating that one day’s payment to the mess provider would be stopped as punishment.
“This is KIIT Bhubaneswar, ranked 42nd among engineering colleges in India, where parents pay around 17.5 lakhs to get their child an engineering degree. This is the food served in the college hostel. Then we wonder why students from India migrate to other countries for better education and facilities,” Aaraynsh wrote on the microblogging site while sharing the photo of the frog covered in food.

A few hours later, he posted another update on the institute’s circular. The message, dated September 23, to the canteen contractor stated that the food was “totally unhygienic” and that students were “dissatisfied” with the lunch. It added: “Therefore, one day’s payment for food items (breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner) is hereby deducted as a mark of punishment as it concerns the health and hygiene of the guests. Furthermore, you are WARNED to be very careful while preparing food for the residents of your assigned hostels. You are once again instructed to maintain hygiene in your kitchen, store and food quality.’
So this is the value of human life. The hostel where the frog was served, at Bhubaneswar University, in an attempt to control the damage, decided to deduct just one day’s payment from the junk supplier! Just wow. pic.twitter.com/2BSDhUwI8I

The post attracted a lot of attention from netizens, with many criticizing the council for their approach to the situation.
“It reminds me of the time I got stabbed in my hostel food,” one person commented.
“The food in the canteen is miserable in almost all government schools, but the private schools are of five-star quality,” said a user.
A third user added: “Pathetic…the facility, the canteen contractor and the person responsible should all be charged and have their licenses suspended.”
“Once we got to eat Lizard in our hostel Mess. After that we didn’t eat in Mess for the whole semester,” someone commented.
“It reminds me of the time we got some bugs in our food. Literally in every third plate of crap,” said another person.
