New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated the workers involved in the construction and development of the new parliament building. Before the inauguration of the new parliament building, he congratulated the construction workers with traditional scarves and handed over souvenirs.
Prime Minister Modi also installed the sacred ‘Sengol’ in the new Lok Sabha room, right next to the Speaker’s chair, after an executive puja.
He was handed the historic scepter by Adheenam seers before it was installed in the new parliament building. The ‘Sengol’ was installed as a national symbol of the Amrit Kaal.
After the installation, the Prime Minister also received the blessings of seers from various Adheenams of Tamil Nadu.
This is the same Sengol who was accepted into his residence by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, on the night of August 14, in the presence of several leaders.
The opening ceremony of the new parliament building started with a traditional puja with Vedic rituals. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was also present during the pooja.
It is learned that after the puja, the dignitaries will examine the premises of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha chambers in the new building.
The second phase of the ceremony is expected to begin at 12 noon with the singing of the national anthem in the Lok Sabha room in the presence of all dignitaries including Prime Minister Modi.
At 11:30 am, all invitees, including MPs, Lok Sabha Speaker and Rajya Sabha Speaker, and other distinguished guests are expected to take their seats in the Lok Sabha Room in the new building.
During this phase, a speech will be delivered by Deputy Rajya Sabha Chairman Harivansh, who will further read a written message of congratulations on behalf of Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar. A written message from President Droupadi Murmu will also be read on the occasion.
