New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag out Assam’s first Vande Bharat Express at noon on Monday via video conference, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The state-of-the-art train will provide people in the region with the means to travel quickly and comfortably. It will also boost tourism in the region, the statement said.
By connecting Guwahati to New Jalpaiguri, the train saves about an hour of travel time, compared to the current fastest train connecting the two places. Vande Bharat will complete the journey in five and a half hours, while the current fastest train takes about six and a half hours.
Prime Minister Modi will also dedicate 182 route kilometers of newly electrified sections. This will help to enable pollution-free transport, with trains running at higher speeds and shorter lead times. It will also open the doors for trains running on electric traction to enter Meghalaya.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate a newly built DEMU/MEMU warehouse in Assam’s Lumding. This new facility will be useful for the maintenance of the DEMU rakes operating in the region, leading to better operational feasibility.
The Indian Railways currently runs 34 train services in 21 states. It has set a goal to run at least one service in seven other states by June.
