Poll-bound Manipur records a rise in daily cases and positivity despite the election commission’s ban on large gatherings until January 31. The state crossed the 2,000 mark of covid deaths on Saturday since the start of the pandemic two years ago. Covid vaccination coverage in Manipur still remains low, even as the electoral body has asked poll-bound states to step up adult vaccinations.
Manipur recorded three more COVID-19 deaths on Saturday, bringing the death toll to 2,022, while 404 new positive cases brought the state’s number to 1,29,661, according to the latest update from the state’s health department. The positivity rate currently stands at 18.1 percent.
Last Friday, the number of one-day COVID-19 cases in Manipur rose to 578 with a positivity rate of 19.3 percent, while two more patients died, according to official sources.
The three COVID-19 deaths recorded on Saturday are from Chandel, Imphal West and Imphal East. All victims had co-morbidities, and two of them were vaccinated with only the first dose, according to a release from the state’s COVID-19 Common Control Room.
The recovery rate in the northeastern state currently stands at 96.02 percent. Manipur now has 3,139 active COVID-19 cases, according to the release.
According to the latest update, the total number of people who have been administered the vaccine has reached 24,27,289 (first dose: 13,83,728 second dose: 10,30,181). The cumulative number of people vaccinated in the state with the first dose is 57.89 percent and for the second dose 44.01 percent, the Manipur health department’s covid bulletin added.
