Notably, 40-year-old RK Somendro Singh had contested the seat of Inner Manipur Lok Sabha in 2019 as an independent candidate. Before the Lok Sabha polls, he was the vice president of the Manipur unit of the Lok Janshakti party of the late Ram Vilas Paswan.
The upcoming election polls in Manipur have become quite interesting as many new faces have appeared this time around.
The BJP announced candidates for all 60 assembly seats on Sunday for the upcoming elections in Manipur. Prime Minister N Biren Singh will stand for re-election in Heingang constituency.
Earlier today, the National People’s Party (NPP) led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma released its third list of candidates for the Manipur election. The names of nine more candidates were released by Mr. Sangma himself, bringing the number of party candidates to 42 this time. Election observers believe the NPP is rising like a dark horse.
In 2017, Congress emerged as the largest party by winning 28 seats, but later several leaders left the party. In a post-pole alliance with Naga People’s Front (NPF), National Peoples’ Party (NPP), the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), independent candidate, BJP was able to form the government in the state.
The state election polls will be held in two phases on February 27 and March 3, and the results will be announced on March 10.
