New Delhi:
Punjab Chief Minister-appointed Bhagwant Mann resigned from the Lok Sabha on Monday, a day before his swearing in.
The leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), a MP from Sangrur constituency in Punjab since 2014, handed over his resignation to Chairman Om Birla.
“The people of Sangrur have showered me with such love for many years, thank you so much for this. Now I have the chance to serve all of Punjab. I promise the people of Sangrur that in a few months their voice will be heard again in the Lok Sabha ,’ he had said in Koo.
On his last day in the House as Member of Parliament, Mr Mann told ANI news agency: “I will miss this House. Punjab has given me a huge responsibility. I promise the people of Sangrur that a strong voice will soon be heard for them in this House.”
The AAP won a landslide victory in the Punjab Assembly elections with 92 seats out of the 117 seats that many giants like former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, incumbent Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Congressional Head of State Navjot Singh Sidhu saw lose.
Mann, 48, the party’s first ministerial candidate, will be sworn in on Wednesday in the village of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, Khatkar Kalan.
Mr Mann invited the Chief Minister of Delhi and the National Chairman of the AAP, Arvind Kejriwal, to the swearing-in ceremony.
Running from Dhuri constituency in Sangrur district, Mr Mann won by a margin of over 58,000 votes over Dalvir Singh Goldy of the Congress.
