Jaipur:
A private school principal and the father of a 14-year-old rape victim have been arrested for allegedly manipulating the girl's birth certificates to help the accused get bail, police said on Sunday. The principal was arrested from Deoria on Thursday, while the girl's father was nabbed from Rajasthan's Behror on Saturday night, said Sunil Kumar Jangir, an official of Murlipura police station.
The girl had filed a complaint in July alleging that her aunt had sold her to Sandeep Yadav, a resident of Haryana, for Rs 200,000 and then raped her.
The case was registered under various sections of the IPC and POCSO Act. After investigation, her aunt Sandeep Yadav and his father Satveer Yadav were arrested and sent to court.
Meanwhile, the girl's father, Sanjay, is said to have contacted a private school in Uttar Pradesh to obtain a false certificate, claiming that the girl was an adult and not a minor.
“The school principal Prannath Mal tampered with the school register and issued a false birth certificate. The document wrongly stated that the girl's year of birth was 2003. We found that the year of birth had been changed from 2010 to 2003, making her 21 years old,” he said.
The SHO said that after the girl registered an FIR, the police obtained her file in which she is a minor. When the second document surfaced, the police suspected it to be fake and registered a separate case and a team was sent to Uttar Pradesh for verification.
“The team found that the school register had been tampered with. The register was seized and the principal was arrested. During interrogation, he said that the girl's father had approached him to obtain a false file. Following this, the girl's father was also arrested on Saturday night,” he said.
According to the SHO, the director and the girl's father have been arrested in the second case, which is related to tampering with documents.
