Bombay:
Maharashtra, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, said Tuesday that the previous Uddhav Thackeray-led government has issued as many as 400 government orders in its final days and allocated funds five times the budget allocation.
These government orders (called government resolutions in the official parlance), largely related to the allocation of funds for various development-related works, were issued at a time when the ruling coalition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) was following an uprising in the Shiv Sena and the legitimacy of the tripartite dispensation were under discussion, he said.
The new government of Eknath Shinde-BJP is reviewing such hasty decisions in order to avoid unnecessary burdens on the state treasury, Devendra Fadnavis said while speaking to reporters here in Mantralaya, the administrative headquarters of the Maharashtra government.
“The previous government under Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray had issued 400 government orders and allocated five times more resources than the budget allocation (in the last days in office). If we continue with these orders, there will be an unnecessary burden on the state treasury.” said the BJP leader.
Since being sworn in on June 30, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his deputy Devendra Fadnavis have evaluated the functioning of various departments and blocked several government orders issued by the former government headed by Shiv Sena.
This move has angered opposition parties, including Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, the Nationalist Congress and Congress.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) opposition leader Ajit Pawar has asked Eknath Shinde not to arbitrarily suspend all government decisions.
Devendra Fadnavis said: “It was not right for the government to issue orders when it lost the moral right to remain in office. The (MVA Thackeray-led) government was in a minority and should not have made such decisions. making a review of all these decisions and giving consent on merit.” Uddhav Thackeray resigned as prime minister on June 29 after an uprising by a section of Shiv Sena members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) led by Eknath Shinde on June 21.
Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis were sworn in on June 30, but a full-fledged state cabinet has yet to be installed.
