New Delhi:
The Enforcement Directorate has today recovered Rs 20 crore in cash from the home of an aide to West Bengal Minister Partha Chatterjee. The ED raided Arpita Mukerjee’s home in connection with an alleged teacher recruitment scam in West Bengal.
“The amount quoted is believed to be proceeds of crime from the said SSC scam,” the investigative agency said in a statement.
The search teams enlist the help of bank officials to count cash through counting machines.
More than 20 cell phones have also been recovered from Arpita Mukherjee’s premises, whose purpose and use are being determined.
Besides Chatterjee, the ED also conducted raids on Education Minister Paresh C Adhikary, MLA Manik Bhattacharya and others.
Partha Chatterjee, who is currently the Minister of Industry and Commerce, was the Minister of Education when the alleged illegal appointments were made in government-run and supported schools by the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC).
