Sanjay Raut said the Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP was once a “friend” of the BJP
Bombay:
A day after Mehbooba Mufti noted that peace in Kashmir would be elusive until the center enters into a dialogue with Pakistan and the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said the PDP chief could make such comments as the BJP people like her had been given strength by forming government with her party in the former state.
Speaking to reporters, Mr Raut said the Mehbooba Mufti-led People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was once a “friend” of the BJP.
The PDP has been “pro-Pakistan and sympathetic to terrorists” from the start, he claimed.
Notably, the PDP and BJP had come together in 2015 to form a government in Jammu and Kashmir. The alliance broke up in June 2018.
Ms Mufti on Saturday reiterated her appeal to the BJP-led government in the center for dialogue with Pakistan and the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Mr Raut said Ms Mufti had supported the assassination attempt by parliament convicted Afzal Guru and that the BJP had continued to form a government by forming an alliance with its party in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Now the same Mehbooba Mufti wants a dialogue with Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir issue. This is a sin of the BJP,” he claimed.
“The BJP gave power to such people by sharing power with them… That’s why the BJP is responsible for what Mehbooba Mufti says,” he said.
The Rajya Sabha member further said that whatever the BJP thinks about the issue now, the Shiv Sena has always opposed the PDP’s ideology and will continue to oppose it.
Referring to Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrakant Patil’s recent comment that Prime Minister Narendra Modi only sleeps two hours and works 22 hours every day, Mr Raut claimed it was “the pinnacle of sycophancy”. “The Prime Minister even lost his two-hour sleep when he heard Patil’s remarks,” he joked.
Mr Raut said sarcastically that according to BJP leaders such as Mr Patil, only Prime Minister Modi works hard and no other leader in the world, including US President Joe Biden, his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky from Ukraine.
“Sycophants were there before. Even Mahatma Gandhi had sycophants. Sardar Patel also had sycophants. But we’ve never seen sycophants like this before…this is the pinnacle of sycofancy,” said the leader of Shiv Sena.
Mr Raut made similar comments in his weekly column ‘Rokhthok’ in the mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ of the Shiv Sena.
