Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital today for treatment of a viral respiratory infection.
Sonia Gandhi’s daughter, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, accompanied her to the hospital in the morning, sources told Press Trust of India.
The hospital later issued a health bulletin, PTI news agency reported.
“Ms. Sonia Gandhi, Chairman, UPA was admitted to our hospital today. She was admitted to the Chest Medicine Department under the care of Dr. Arup Basu and his team. Ms. Gandhi was admitted for observation and treatment of a viral respiratory infection,” said Dr. Ajay Swaroop, Chairman of the Hospital Board.
Sources told Press Trust of India that Sonia Gandhi has been unwell since Tuesday. Hence, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra returned to Delhi after walking seven kilometers in the Bharat Jodo Yatra entering Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday night.
The Congress Bharat Jodo Yatra resumed its journey at 6 am on Wednesday after an overnight stay at Mavikalan in Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh.
However, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra did not join Rahul Gandhi in the resumption of the yatra.
