The cryptic tweet sparked massive speculation that Sourav Ganguly, 49, is joining politics.
“2022 marks the 30th year since starting my journey with cricket in 1992. Since then, Cricket has given me a lot. Most importantly, it has given me the support of all of you. I want to thank everyone who was part of the journey, supported me and helped me get to where I am today,” wrote the cricket legend.
Last month, Sourav Ganguly had received Union Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah at his home in Bengal.
When the dinner meeting sparked resentment in Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress, he spoke of his close ties to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
“Our Honorable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is a person who is very close to me. I had approached her to help this institution,” he told reporters.
He also dismissed speculation about the Amit Shah dinner. “There’s a lot of speculation… but I’ve known him (Amit Shah) since 2008. I met him while playing. There’s nothing more than that,” he said.
