Gyanesh Kumar, who was appointed election commissioner last year, has been appointed as the next main election commissioner of India and replaces the outgoing Rajiv Kumar. Kumar will supervise the behavior of the Bihar Assembly elections later this year and the polls in Bengalen, Assam and Tamil Nadu next year. He took the lead this morning as the new poll chef.
The appointment of Mr Kumar came on Monday in a development of late night, within a few hours after a meeting of a panel with three members consisting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister of the Interior Amit Shah, and leader of opposition (LOP) Rahul Gandhi. However, it caused a row because Mr Gandhi did not approve the agreement.
