New Delhi:
The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear an appeal on March 3 by the Tamil Nadu government against the order of the Madras High Court that allowed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to hold a march in the state.
A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha noted the statements of senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing before the state government, that the plea needed an urgent hearing as the march was scheduled to start from March 5.
“I’m asking for a hearing on Friday,” the senior attorney said.
“We’ll keep it to Friday,” the bank said.
The Madras High Court had on February 10 authorized the RSS to end its route march in Tamil Nadu on newly scheduled dates, noting that protests are essential for a healthy democracy.
