Chennai:
BJP Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai on Monday said the state song 'Tamil Thai Vazhthu', an invocation to Mother Tamil, was never recited before the governor's address in the Tamil Nadu state assembly until 1991.
As the Governor walked out of the Assembly within five minutes of his arrival, without reading the customary speech prepared by the government to mark the beginning of the session in a new year, Annamalai accused the government of diverting public anger.
The governor left the House protesting what he called disrespect for the Constitution and the national anthem.
In a post on ' rules that must be followed.” He further said that after the Tamizh Thai Vazhthu was played, the governor requested that the national anthem be played but it was “denied.” In this context, Mr. Annamalai said that the DMK government needs to be reminded of related aspects.
In 1970, during the DMK regime led by then Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, the government mandated the recitation of Tamil Thai Vazhthu at the beginning of all government and educational functions and public events.
“However, the Tamil Thai Vazhthu was never recited before the Governor's speech in the State Assembly of Tamil Nadu until 1991.
In July 1991, when Jayalalitha was the chief minister of TN, Tamizh Thai Vazthu and the national anthem were played for the first time at the beginning and end of the governor's speech. played on the arrival of the Governor/Lieutenant Governor to formal state functions within his state/union territory and on his departure from such functions.
This guideline is based on the Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act of 1971.
“We kindly request TN CM @mkstalin to focus his energies on delivering justice for the victim who was sexually assaulted at Anna University and not divert the attention of the people.
The Honorable Governor of TN, RN Ravi, is only asking the TN government to follow the laid down rules and procedures, and we don't think this is a big ask.
@BJPTamil Nadu advocates that recitation of Tamil Thai Vazhthu and National Anthem before the beginning and at the end of the Governor's address should become a custom.” Mr. Annamalai posted related documents, 1991 Assembly report and guidelines from the Center on the national anthem.
TVK chief Vijay said it is the tradition of the TN Assembly to play the state song at the beginning of the governor's speech and the national anthem at the end. The governor, whoever he may be, must follow tradition and the constant confrontation between the governor and the government is not good for democracy.
