Kazan, Russia:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed the need for joint action against terrorism at the 16th BRICS Summit. He stressed that the fight against terrorism requires a “single-minded” focus and “strong support” from all nations. He asserted that there is no place for 'double standards' in tackling this global challenge.
He also stressed the importance of stopping the radicalization of young people and urged action to counter terrorism and terrorist financing. These comments come after China blocked several proposals at the United Nations to designate Pakistan-based terrorists.
“We must work together on the long-pending issue in the UN of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism,” Prime Minister Modi said. He also added that work must be done on global regulations for cybersecurity and for safe AI.
He further spoke about the expansion of the BRICS forum. “India is ready to welcome new countries in BRICS as partner countries,” he said.
He also emphasized that decisions should be made by consensus and that the views of the founding members of the BRICS should be respected.
Advocating adherence to the guiding principles, standards, criteria and procedures adopted by all members and countries at the Johannesburg Summit last year, he said BRICS is an organization willing to evolve with the times.
He concluded by saying that the BRICS should be a model organization for the world, and that they should raise their voices for reforms in global organizations in a collective and united manner, but also ensure that they avoid any perception that they are ' trying to replace global institutions'. , rather than being seen as someone who wants to reform them.”
