Watching an apex predator like the crocodile hunt its prey sends chills down the spine. One of those videos has gone viral on social media, showing the reptile sneaking up to a herd of deer drinking water by a pond.
The video, posted on Instagram, begins with a herd of deer drinking water at a pond, which the crocodile cannot see in the muddy water. The reptile suddenly jumps out of the water and grabs the leg of one of the deer dragging it into the water.
The deer tries to wriggle out of the crocodile’s jaws, but all efforts are in vain. The rest just walk away.
The video shocked the internet and sparked a deluge of comments on Instagram.
“That’s a lot more painful than it looks… His leg is small, so the pain is unbearable!” noted one user.
“Hate crocodiles,” commented another user. The video was posted on the Instagram handle of an Indian user, but the location of the incident has not been disclosed.
Crocodile is one of the most feared predators and videos showing its hunt often give users goosebumps online.
A few years ago, horrifying images emerged from South Africa showing a cheetah being dragged into the water by a 4-meter-high crocodile.
The young cheetah had walked to the watering hole for a drink, oblivious to the crocodile lurking inside. As the cheetah gobbled up water, the crocodile emerged in a flash and dragged it down.
Footage shows the crocodile jumping out of the water to grab the cheetah cub with its powerful jaws before pulling the struggling animal into the water.
The video went viral on social media and racked up millions of views across various platforms.
