Kota:
Three more students from a coaching institute in the Jawahar Nagar area tested positive for hepatitis A, bringing the number of those affected by the disease to 44.
Meanwhile, the Kota district government submitted a report on such cases to the Chief Minister’s Office three days after a NEET aspirant died of the infection while undergoing treatment.
Kota District Collector OP Bunker has asked the management of the coaching institute and hostels where contaminated water has been found to use RO water.
During a survey, students from only one coaching institute in Jawahar Nagar were found to be affected. During the investigation, it emerged that water was being supplied via tankers, Deputy CMHO Ghanshyam Meena said.
He said the stored water turned out to be contaminated. Students reported drinking the same water at the coaching center and also bringing bottled water to the hostel, the official said.
According to a preliminary report from the CMHO, contaminated water was a possible cause of the infection, said ADM Brij Mohan Bairwa.
The district collector has written to the director of the coaching institute and the managers of hostels to have samples of water tested and use it after it has been treated by the RO process, he said.
When asked what action can be taken in the case, Kota District Collector OP Bunker said the investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
