In a minor accident at Pune International Airport today, a Sukhoi fighter jet suffered a tire fracture during landing at the airport, leading to a runway blockage, ANI news agency reported. The runway was closed for two hours and passengers faced inconvenience as many flights were diverted to Mumbai and other places, local media reported. Departure times were also affected as flights did not take off during the shutdown.
The runway was then cleared by Indian Air Force personnel and opened for flight operations after required checks.
The runway was closed until 3:30 PM, affecting arrivals and departures.
“Due to the closure of the runway in Pune (PNQ) until 3:30 PM, all departures/arrivals and resulting flights may be affected,” SpiceJet tweeted.

The Pune Aiport runway is operated by the Indian Air Force as the district does not have a separate airport for civilian operations.
