Badrinath:
In view of the total lunar eclipse (Chandra Grahan), the doors of the Badrinath Temple were closed earlier today and would remain so until late in the evening.
“Badrinath Dham Temple is closed due to the lunar eclipse. The temple will reopen at 6:25 PM after the eclipse,” Ajendra Ajay, chairman of the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, told ANI.
Due to the Lunar Eclipse, temples across India have been closed since morning and are said to remain closed until 6:30 PM. Temples announced that after performing the Sandhya Aarti and other purification rituals, the temples would be opened to the public.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, Earth, and a full moon form a near-perfect Syzygy in space. The moon slides into Earth’s shadow, gradually darkening until the entire lunar disk turns an eerie red or faded orange of its usual silvery-gray hue. The event continues in reverse order until the moon becomes completely clear again.
The November 8 lunar eclipse is the last lunar eclipse of the year and the second total lunar eclipse in the year 2022, the previous one being on May 15-16. Today’s eclipse would be visible all over India, along with parts of Asia, North America, Australia, and some places in Europe and across North America. The next lunar eclipse is expected on May 5, 2023.
Each year the sun, moon and earth line up four to seven times in a Syzygy, forming what is called the solar or lunar eclipse.
