srinagar:
A tourist guide has drowned while a Uttarakhand trekker is reported missing in the Tarsar Lake area in southern Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said Thursday.
“Tourist guide Shakeel Ahmad, a resident of Ganderbal district, drowned in Lake Tarsar on Wednesday. His body was fished out on Thursday,” said a Srinagar official.
Officials said a Uttarakhand trekker was also feared dead after slipping into the water during torrential rain on Wednesday.
A group of 11 trekkers from different states, accompanied by three local guides, had gone on an expedition before heavy rains ravaged the Kashmir Valley from June 19.
Ten tourists and two local guides have been rescued as efforts are made to locate the missing tourist, officials said.
Meanwhile, seven tourists have been rescued here by Dal Lake locals after their houseboat began to sink on Thursday morning.
They were rescued by the houseboat owner and his neighbors.
