New Delhi:
A day before the presidential poll, NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu was in touch with NDA lawmakers on Sunday and said tribes and women in the country are excited and elated at her nomination to the country’s highest constitutional post, according to sources.
BJP leaders of parliamentary parties staged a sham voting exercise in the presidential election on Sunday, attended by ministers and leaders from several NDA allies and all MPs from the ruling alliance.
During the exercise, it was ensured that all MPs cast their votes accurately so that no vote of the ruling alliance is invalidated during the meeting. The exercise used fake ballot papers and a pen, similar to the one used for actually voting in the presidential election, the sources said.
At the end of the exercise, Ms Murmu reached parliament and was facilitated by BJP president JP Nadda, Apna Dal leader Anupriya Patel, RLJP leader Pashupati Paras and others.
Ms Murmu was in touch with NDA MPs on Sunday and thanked them for nominating her as their presidential candidate.
“With my nomination there is excitement among tribes and women,” Ms Murmu told the meeting.
“There are about 10 crore tribals with over 700 communities, and they are all very happy with my nomination,” she said.
Voting for the presidential election begins at 10 a.m. Monday. BJP MPs have been asked to vote in parliament.
