Male:
Foreign Minister S Jaishankar described the “tried and tested” relationship between India and the Maldives as a “force for stability” in the region and said on Saturday it is the two countries’ shared responsibility to nurture and strengthen it.
During a joint press conference together with Abdulla Shahid, the Foreign Minister of the Maldives, Dr. Jaishankar also said the bilateral relationship is poised for a quantum leap to touch the lives of the people of the two countries like never before.
“This is a partnership that takes on common challenges… It is a force for stability in the region. It is our shared responsibility to nurture and strengthen it,” said Dr Jaishankar, who arrived here earlier today as part of of his five-day two-day visit to the Maldives and Sri Lanka to explore the possibilities of further expanding bilateral agreements with India’s two main maritime neighbours.
The Maldives is one of India’s most important maritime neighbors in the Indian Ocean region and bilateral defense and security relations have been on the rise in recent years.
