Two Brazilians have been arrested at the international airport here for smuggling cocaine worth Rs 20 crore, the customs department said on Sunday.
The suspects, a man and a woman from Brazil, were intercepted on December 24 after arriving from Sao Paulo via Paris.
“Upon questioning, both passengers admitted that they had ingested capsules/pellets containing some narcotic substances,” customs said in a statement.
During the initial procedure at the airport, both passengers removed some capsules containing narcotics, the report said.
The suspects were taken to Safdarjung Hospital here “to take appropriate measures for extraction/excretion of the said capsules”, the statement said.
The entire medical extraction process took several days and a total of 105 capsules were recovered from male passengers, which in turn yielded 937 grams of cocaine, the report said.
A total of 58 capsules containing 562 grams of cocaine were recovered from the female passenger, the statement said.
The market value of the total 1,399 grams of narcotics seized is estimated at around Rs 20.98 crore, the Customs said.
