A 30-year-old man has been killed in a dispute over ‘rotis’ in the Cantt Police Station area of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, police said Monday.
As the case involves two communities, additional police have been deployed to the area as a precaution, they said.
The incident took place in the Chanehata area of the city on Sunday, when a restaurant owner, with his staff, beat up a Sunny and his cousin and sent them to hospital.
Sunny had placed an order for 150 ‘rotis’ at a restaurant in the Chanehata area for his Sunday birthday party and had also made the payment.
But when the owner sent only 40 “rotis,” Sunny went to the restaurant with a cousin of his and discussed the matter with the owner and got into an argument with him, according to the victim’s father’s complaint.
When things got heated, Zeeshan, the owner of the hotel, attacked the two men with sticks with his staff, seriously injuring them.
Both were rushed to a hospital where Sunny succumbed to injuries later in the evening while his cousin Bablu was treated, police said.
Two cousins of the owner and a worker have been arrested while the hunt for Zeeshan is underway, they said.
