Washington:
Praising US-India ties, the White House said on Monday (local time) that President Joe Biden considers the US relationship with India to be one of the most important in the world, adding that both countries are “working closely together” on key priorities.
At a press conference on Monday (local time), White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre said the US is working with India on key priorities, including the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD).
“So look, the president sees our relationship, the United States relationship with India, as one of the most consistent in the world. And so we are working closely with India on our most vital priorities, including through the Quad and the US-India initiative on this critical and emerging technology,” Jean Pierre said.
She further stressed that the US wants to expand its “critically important partnership” with India in the future.
“And so we look forward to continuing to expand our critical and vitally important partnership and how it will benefit the American people. And we want to create a more prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific and the world. And so that will continue to be our focus as we move forward,” she added.
The US has a diplomatic partnership with India, Australia and Japan through QUAD. The goal of QUAD is to support an open, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region that is inclusive and resilient.
Notably, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, along with Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa and Australian Penny Wong attended the Quad Foreign Ministers meeting held in Tokyo on July 29.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment, common principles and capabilities to preserve and strengthen the international order for the global interest.
“We look forward to India hosting the next Quad Leaders' Summit later this year and the United States hosting the next Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting in 2025,” a joint statement said after the meeting in Tokyo.
The joint statement of the Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting said that the bloc's countries are jointly pursuing a positive and practical agenda to support the sustainable development, stability and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region, thereby meeting the needs of the region.
The statement said they contribute to a region in which all countries and people can freely choose how to cooperate and trade based on partnership, equality and mutual respect.
