Cars in India will soon receive ‘star ratings’ based on crash test performance
New Delhi:
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said today that the new car rating program – Bharat NCAP, proposes a mechanism whereby cars in India will be given ‘Star Ratings’ based on their performance in crash tests.
In a series of tweets, Mr Gadkari said the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP) will serve as a consumer-oriented platform, allowing customers to choose safer cars based on their Star-Ratings, while promoting healthy competition between original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in India to create safer vehicles.
Bharat NCAP’s test protocol will be aligned with the Global Crash Test Protocols, taking into account existing Indian regulations, so that OEMs can have their vehicles tested at India’s own in-house testing facilities.
