Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar joined the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and other dignitaries at the inauguration of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Sunday.
Vice President Dhankhar is in Doha for a two-day visit to represent India at the inauguration of FIFA’s flagship event.
He visits Doha at the invitation of Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
“Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar joins Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and other dignitaries in inauguration of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar,” tweeted Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi.

In addition to attending the opening ceremony of the football world cup, the vice president will also interact with members of the Indian community during the visit.
The vice president’s visit would be an opportunity to join the close and friendly nation of Qatar, which is hosting a major sporting event, and also to recognize the role Indians have played and supported during this World Cup, the president said. MEA statement on Friday.
India and Qatar maintain close and friendly relations with a multifaceted partnership that spans trade, energy, security, defence, health, culture and education, among others, the MEA statement said.
In the past financial year, bilateral trade between the two countries amounted to $15 billion.
Qatar plays an important partner in India’s energy security and India participates in the gulf nation’s food security.
India and Qatar would mark 50 years of full diplomatic relations next year.
The MEA statement said that people-to-people ties are an important part of the bilateral relationship with more than 840,000 Indians in Qatar.
