In what can only be described as every safari-goer’s worst nightmare come to life, a rhinoceros in Assam’s Manas National Park terrified unsuspecting tourists when it suddenly emerged from a bush and began to chase their vehicle. The incident took place in the Ban Habari forest area of the park.
A tourist on safari captured the scene on his phone’s camera, in which a rhino runs toward the vehicle. The driver quickly accelerates and leaves the rhino behind, but the animal is seen to have been chasing the vehicle for some time. The tourists were quickly driven out.
According to the Manas National Park website, chances of spotting tigers, one-horned rhinoceroses, elephants and buffalo are high in this part of the park.
Experts say such an incident can be attributed to the animals’ uneasiness with the constant human movements in the forest.
Manas National Park is gaining ground as a major tourist attraction and this year the number of tourists visiting the park in the last week of December has increased.
