A video of Madhya Pradesh BJP leader Imarti Devi throwing away a mask given to her by volunteers from the Aam Aadmi Party has been doing the rounds on social media. The incident happened on Friday as the volunteers distributed masks in Datia district to those seen without masks.
The former minister of state, who was traveling by car, was stopped by workers for not wearing a mask, which has been cited as one of the most effective methods of combating the spread of COVID-19. The footage shows her throwing the mask away as soon as an employee gives it to her.

This comes even as the state witnesses a wave of business. The number of COVID-19 in Madhya Pradesh reached 8,71,632 on Friday with the addition of 9,603 cases, while the death toll rose by four to 10,557 in the past 24 hours, a health department official said.
A loyalist to Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, she was recently appointed chair of the small-scale industry in the state.
Imarti Devi was the Minister of Women and Child Development in the Kamal Nath-led Congress government. She and 21 MLAs along with Jyotiraditya Scindia, then in Congress, had switched to BJP in March 2020, overthrowing Kamal Nath’s government.
